IP Unity® and Common Voices Team to Accelerate Carriers' Seamless Migration to Next Generation Messaging Services

Fall TMIA 2006, MONTREAL, Quebec — October 3, 2006— IP Unity, the leader in carrier-grade media servers, application servers and real-time multimedia applications, and Common Voices, the acknowledged pioneer and leading supplier of carrier class Voice Mail migration solutions, announced today the signing of a Joint Marketing Agreement enabling the partners to offer and deliver  comprehensive Voice Mail Migration Solutions that improve subscriber satisfaction when carriers upgrade to new messaging systems.  The partnership is expected to accelerate the deployment of next generation messaging services by removing significant barriers to change.

Common Voices and IP Unity will integrate software mapping to interface the Common Voices’ NowThere® Migration Software to IP Unity’s next generation Mereon® Unified Messaging solution. This will enable service providers to move seamlessly from another vendor’s legacy voice mail system to the Mereon system, thus migrating subscribers to a future-proof platform with no loss or disruption to their existing voice mail service.

Until now, service providers had few options, other than to "flash cut" to the new system (and lose subscribers' valuable data) or set up temporary circuits for 30 days to support both the old legacy platform and the new messaging platform (enabling subscribers to temporarily retrieve all messages). No more duplication of circuits means greater cost savings.  In addition, previously when moving to a new Voice Mail system, subscribers had to reenter their greetings and pins and often lost existing messages.  With this new offering, the subscriber experience is greatly improved, while carriers’ costs are significantly reduced.

"Next-Gen systems like Mereon Unified Messaging represent the future of messaging," stated Todd Hasselbeck, CEO of CommonVoices. "Systems such as this are feature-rich and able to deliver messaging in whatever form – text, speech, video -- or any combination the subscriber prefers.  Mereon Unified Messaging can also accept migrated content and messages at a high rate of speed from NowThere, which allows large groups of subscribers to be moved within standard maintenance windows. We are pleased that our joint solution can make it effortless for carriers and their subscribers to move messaging to the next level."

CommonVoices has developed, patented and proven the NowThere migration technology that enables complete subscriber migration from one vendor’s platform to another, including integration of new and saved voice mail messages, greetings, passwords and all related envelope information into the new system. IP Unity is developing the API interface to do software mapping and define the interface between both systems. This means that any carrier migrating to IP Unity’s platform is ensured of

  • No disruption of service for subscribers – totally seamless migration
  • Greatly reduced impact on call center call volumes, because messages, PINs, greetings, etc are automatically migrated from one system to another
  • Reduced call center costs
  • Increased customer satisfaction
  • Reduced churn, especially in competitive cable and mobile markets

"Carriers want to improve customer service, eliminate service disruption and any cause of churn," added IP Unity’s CEO and Chairman Arun Sobti. "Our partnership with CommonVoices is a step in that direction. Operators moving to state-of-the-art platforms require options for migration. This new relationship we have with CommonVoices expands these options for our customers."
