KMC Telecom Deploys IP Unity’s Mereon™ 6000 Media Server and Mereon Unified Messaging for Expansion of Its Wholesale IP Hosted Services
VON -- BOSTON, Mass — September 19, 2005— KMC Telecom, a wholesale carrier providing managed modem, local and national tandem, enhanced origination/termination and IP hosted services to wireless, IXC, CLEC, ESP, ISP, Cable and VoIP service providers throughout the United States, has deployed Mereon 6000 Media Servers from IP Unity, a leader in carrier-grade media servers, application servers and real-time multimedia applications for IP and TDM networks.
KMC will initially use the Mereon 6000 Media Servers to support voice mail applications for wholesale customers who aren’t able to deploy their own systems. In the future, unified messaging, conferencing and auto-attendant services may also be offered.
KMC Telecom provides its services via 14 tandem switches and a nationwide IP/MPLS network. With the flexibility of supporting TDM and IP traffic, coverage in over 200 underserved Tier 2, 3 and 4 markets, a vast number of existing wireless and IXC carriers on-net, and now with IP Unity’s Mereon 6000 Media Server and Unified Messaging application, KMC is well positioned to meet the current and ever growing needs of its customer base.
“We came to IP Unity because of the Mereon platform’s well-proven interoperability with many softswitch and IP services elements,” stated Ron Beaumont, who is heading up KMC Telecom’s new wholesale business unit. “Once we became familiar with its rich feature set and network-agnostic architecture, we were convinced of its advantages over other alternatives. We will be able to offer many services over one platform, scalability is excellent, and the deployment has been smooth and efficient.”
“KMC’s progress in growing its wholesale services base is exciting,” said IP Unity CEO and Chair Dr. Arun Sobti. “Like many carriers who have successfully evolved during the rapid changes of the past five years in telecom, KMC is building, delivering and expanding a focused set of new capabilities for new customers. Their IP Hosted Services will be among the company’s most popular offerings, and we are proud to be a key part of the current service rollout.”
IP Unity’s Mereon Media Servers and Mereon Application Servers have been deployed in over 30 countries for messaging, conferencing, IVR, announcements, prepaid and debit enhanced services. IP Unity has been selected for large educational campus, government agency and very large-scale carrier service rollouts by leading RBOCs and high-growth international wireless, wireline and incumbent cable operators.
