Excel Switching and IP Unity Partner on Enhanced Services

Leading Infrastructure Supplier Teams with Leading IP Applications Provider for the Delivery of Personalized Mobile Services with Integrated Media Server and Media Gateway Functionality at 3GSM World Congress 2005

Cannes, France — February 14, 2005— Excel Switching Corporation and IP Unity announced today at the 3GSM World Congress their plans for an integrated solution combining IP Unity's HMS6000™ Media Server and Excel's AnyGen family of media and signaling gateways to deliver enhanced services to mobile operators worldwide. Excel Switching and IP Unity will be jointly exhibiting at 3GSM World Congress, Booth #F53, Hall 2, to further discuss the new partnership.

With this combined solution, service providers can rapidly and cost-effectively deploy high-value enhanced voice and data services across both 2G and 3G networks. Deploying seamless, ubiquitous services is critical to customer satisfaction and in reducing operating expenditures. Combining IP Unity's industry-leading conferencing, IVR and messaging solutions with Excel's carrier-grade signaling and media gateway platforms assures service providers of a high-quality, integrated service delivery solution for any type of mobile network topology.

"As wireless data, information services and messaging become more critical to mobile operators, the combined strength of Excel Switching and IP Unity is very appealing in operators' platform decisions," said XJ Wang, senior analyst in the Wireless Mobile Technology Group at Yankee Group. "Delivery of multiple applications over the same platform reduces the total cost of ownership in launching new services, which is essential to the carrier's bottom line."

The joint solution leverages Excel's extensive experience of over 8,500 deployed systems in over 75+ countries. As part of Excel's AnyGen family of platforms, Excel's new Integrated Media Gateway (IMG) 1010 platform improves network performance by integrating multiple networking functions to optimize post-dial delay and eliminating call hand-offs. The IMG 1010 also enables carriers to roll out new offerings without expensive thirty-party signaling gateways, softswitches or other single-application network elements. Another member of Excel's AnyGen family, the Multi Signaling Platform (MSP) 1010, can dramatically reduce service provider costs by enabling a wide variety of enhanced media and signaling processing in the same compact, scalable platform as the IMG 1010 gateway product.

"Excel has excellent market positioning within the mobile operator market, and is effectively leveraging its deep expertise in signaling and gateway technology to become a preferred provider," stated IP Unity CEO Arun Sobti. "In key Asian markets where IP Unity is experiencing rapid market take-up, it makes perfect sense for us to partner with Excel for mutual success. In particular, the combined power of our value propositions, form and function in mobile messaging, conferencing and prepaid wireless applications is highly appealing."

IP Unity provides enhanced services solutions for TDM, IP and blended networks, and has products deployed in 28 countries. The HMS6000 is the carrier's first choice for critical applications such as messaging, conferencing, video and integrated communications features. The HMS6000 delivers many services via a single platform and tightly integrates with traditional and IP wireline, cable and wireless networks. The system easily enables bundling and customization of features by market and by user group, while accelerating time-to-market for new features.

"IP Unity's platform is one of the most open and flexible application platforms on the market," said Excel Switching CEO Marc Zionts. "Their strategy of serving blended TDM and IP networks, and addressing converged wireline and wireless operators works extremely well with our direction and market success. We look forward to many joint successes and increased market presence."

IP Unity is a member of Excel's IP Interoperability and Innovative Partner (I3P) Program, and has also completed interoperability testing with over 30 complementary enhanced services network elements in the SIP, 3GPP and Packet Cable domains.
